🎠 Pub Dartboard Review - The White Horse

This was supposed to be a review of the Post Office Tavern’s dartboard. However, I arrived at the oche, Bass in hand, to find the cupboard gaffer-taped shut with a sign reading “Out of Order.” This led to a small adventure around Westbury-on-Trym. The Victoria Inn had a dartboard, but there was also a pub quiz on, with a team stationed in the oche. We carried on. The White Lion tempted us in to refresh ourselves for the difficult journey ahead: £3.50 Bass (served in a Guinness glass), but no dartboard. Finally, we stumbled into the White Horse to find a veritable darting grotto. Our prayers were answered. Game on!

Two pints of 6X and Sam's darts ready for action.

The oche is located in a tunnel at the heart of the pub, with its own tiny bar at the back of the main bar. We were given a service bell to attract bar staff when drinks needed replenishing. Drink options were limited, with lots of upside-down plastic cups perched on top of pump handles. However, 6X was flowing nicely at ÂŁ4.00 a pint.

The board was a well-used Winmau Blade 6, rotated and worn in spots. I was gutted to see what would have been my round-the-clock-winning bullseye droop and then slide out of the inner before dribbling onto the floor. Subsequent efforts were thrown with more vim. Scoring games were well catered for, with both electronic and whiteboard options available.

The dartboard itself, surrounded by the signatures of local darting heroes I assume.

The oche itself was a raised plank bolted to the ground. This is far superior to a marked line: you don’t have to look down to align your foot. Simply place your foot against the plank and throw. What’s more, I only tripped over it once. The ceiling was perhaps a tad low, with signs of a few lofty arrows chipping away at it, but it wasn’t an issue for our games.

The oche itself. It being raised makes it much nicer to throw at, but it is a bit of a trip hazard.

All in all, a very successful trip, and we will probably be returning to the cave until the Post Office Tavern’s dartboard is back in action.

I got put in the naughty corner for messing around getting stuck in the mad house.
